Does this alignment of the equations look weird?
You shouldn't use \text, but \mathrm. Why? Try
\begin{theorem}
Here $\text{e}^2$ will be in italics
\end{theorem}
(this assumes you have such a \newtheorem defined).
Of course I'd never use \mathrm{e}...
