Here is a different solution using the enumitem package. With it we can configure how references to items look. In this MWE I change the reference format of second level enumerate globally. As an added bonus we do not have to mess with internals. \documentclass[12pt]{article} \usepackage{enumitem} \setlist[enumerate,2]{ ref=(\alph*), } \begin{document} \...

The key is to redefine the macro \p@enumii, which holds the prefix used in this situation: \documentclass[12pt]{article} \begin{document} \begin{enumerate} \item Solve $x^2=1$. \item Solve $x^2=4$. \begin{enumerate} \makeatletter \renewcommand*\p@enumii{} \makeatother \item \label{enum:1} Find all roots. \...

The result is differently strange with enumitem , but in both cases the solution is the same: add a pair of braces around ‘Part’: \documentclass{book} \usepackage[shortlabels]{enumitem} % \usepackage{enumerate} \begin{document} \begin{enumerate}[{Part} 1] \item \item \item \end{enumerate} \bigskip \begin{enumerate}[Part 1] \item \item \item \end{...

It is better to give the text Part through some tag will solve the issue, e.g., \documentclass{book} \usepackage{enumerate} \begin{document} \begin{enumerate}[{\partname\ 1}] \item \item \item \end{enumerate} \end{document} And the output is:

This could be a solution: \documentclass[extrafontsizes,oneside,20pt]{memoir} \usepackage{enumitem} \usepackage{hyperref} \usepackage{memhfixc} \newenvironment{probsol}[1][\thesection]{\begin{enumerate}[leftmargin=*, label=\sectionitemfont#1.\arabic{enumi}]\let\olditem\item\def\item{\olditem\addcontentsline{toc}{section}{#1.\arabic{enumi}}}} {\end{...

What happen is that the label is placed with \everypar command. \everypar content is inserted at the beging of every paragraph, when TeX enter to horizental mode (after indentation). The \hbox primitive doesn't start a new paragraph i.e. it's add to the vertical list, so the label will wait for additional stuff that start a new paragraph (comma , in the ...

As explained in Differentiating between \hbox and \mbox \hbox is a TeX primitve not a LaTeX command and does not react well with most LaTeX constructs, notably it is not centered by a center environment and has various perhaps unexpected behaviours at the start of a paragraph. The specific interaction with lists is not mentioned there though so answering ...

Simple with enumitem: use the wideoption`, like this: \documentclass[a4paper, 12pt]{article} \usepackage[]{ragged2e} \usepackage[showframe]{geometry} \usepackage{enumitem} \begin{document} \begin{enumerate}[wide, leftmargin=\parindent] \item \textbf {Inference Rules}\\ \begin{enumerate}[leftmargin=2\parindent] \item First ...

I adjust the font size of the icon from packages pifont and amssymb, use \raisebox and \hspace to fit the icon position, finally, it looks good, here is a full example: \documentclass{article} \usepackage{pifont} \usepackage{amssymb} \begin{document} \begin{itemize} \item[$\square$] no checked \item[\rlap{\raisebox{0.3ex}{\hspace{0.4ex}\tiny \ding{52}}}...

Here is an example on how to use the inline option of enumerate or the tasks package: \documentclass{article} \usepackage[inline]{enumitem} \usepackage{tasks} \begin{document} \begin{enumerate*}[label=(\alph*)] \item first item \item second item \end{enumerate*} \begin{tasks}(2) \task first item \task second item \end{tasks} \end{document}

Is this what you want? \documentclass{article} \usepackage{amsthm} \usepackage{amsmath} \usepackage{enumitem} \newtheorem{factinner}{Fact} \newenvironment{fact}[1]{% \renewcommand\thefactinner{#1}% \factinner }{\endfactinner} \begin{document} \section{Linear Transformations \& Matrices} \begin{fact}{1} \begin{proof} Proceed by cases. \begin{...

Not really difficult with xparse. ;-) \documentclass[12pt]{article} \usepackage{fontawesome5,xcolor,xparse,graphicx} \usepackage{enumitem} \usepackage{lipsum} \setlist{nolistsep} \ExplSyntaxOn \NewDocumentCommand{\tennis}{m} { \sebastiano_tennis:c { c@#1 } } \cs_new_protected:Nn \sebastiano_tennis:N { \smash { \begin{tabular}[t]{@{}c@{}} ...

Using \rotatebox \documentclass[12pt]{article} \usepackage{ fontawesome5, xcolor,lipsum,graphicx} \usepackage{enumitem} \setlist{nolistsep} \newcount\cnt \cnt=1 \newbox\tennis \setbox\tennis=\hbox{\faBaseballBall} \def\numberlabel{% \ifnum\the\cnt>4\relax \else {\bfseries\small\sffamily[\the\cnt]}% \fi } \def\Iitem{% \item[% \smash{\...
