Adjust font size with \patchcmd{\normalsize} not working with TL 2022
In the meantime, \normalsize has become a robust command, so \patchcmd is trying to patch the wrong command, namely the “surface” one rather than the one with the real code.

How to define font to the current frame font size
The first level item will automatically be in the surrounding font size, so just do nothing.
For the second and third level items, you can overwrite the default beamer font like this:
\documentclass{...

Redifine \aisize in authorindex package for footnotesize
the small option just does
\renewcommand\aisize{\small}
so you want
\renewcommand\aisize{\footnotesize}
after loading the package
