Skim provides this feature. It also provides pdfsync synchronization, so I would consider it as the favorite PDF viewer for LaTeX! To turn on the feature, go to Preferences in the main Skim menu, then find the Sync tab and from there select Check for file changes and Reload automatically. One nuisance about Skim is that on the first change it asks you if ...

i'm very sorry to have to report that barry smith passed away october 8, 2012, after a long battle with cancer. shortly thereafter, a notice was posted on the bluesky web site, but a catastrophic crash at the server level disrupted that link. (the site name has now been reassigned to someone else, unrelated to textures.) some site history is still ...

Good evening, The site remains with me, and to my knowledge nothing concerning either Bluesky or Textures has been reassigned to anyone else and I suppose I would know. Gordon Lee suffered a heart attack shortly after my husband died. Unfortunately it left him unable to work and retired to a health care community. A great loss after an even greater one not ...

There are two separate tasks here: making your keyboard produce the various Unicode symbols, and making those symbols meaningful to LaTeX. 1. Producing Unicode symbols from your keyboard If you're on a Mac, make a .keylayout file, put it in the ~/Library/Keyboard Layouts directory, then log out and back in again. Your new keyboard layout should now appear ...

Background There is a bug (or possibly multiple related bugs) in Yosemite with respect to environment variables. When a program is launched in Finder by double-clicking, it will inherit a default set of environment variables from its parent process (I believe this is launchd currently, but that's not relevant). GUI programs do not inherit variables from ~/....

Note: users on more recent versions of macOS will not be able to follow these instructions due to new restrictions introduced in those versions. See comments for workarounds. It seems that the upgrade wiped the link from your Library (where MacTeX puts your actual TeX distribution) into your /usr/texbin. You can reinstate this link with the following: ln -...

The simplest way to check and remove older versions of MacTeX is through the terminal. Open a terminal window and type: cd /usr/local/texlive ls If you have multiple years of TeX Live installed, you will see directories corresponding to each of the older years. For example, you may see: 2012 2013 texmf-local which would indicate that you have ...

In general it won’t do any harm if the 2012 and 2013 versions are installed parallel, so you can simply download the MacTeX installer and run it. In the system preferences there’s a pane “TeX Distribution” where you can activate on of the installed distributions and switch between them as necessary. To save disk space you may want to delete the old TeX live....

I suppose you already have Vim installed in your operating system. Usually, the installation is very straightforward for every operating system. For Macs, we have MacVim, and AFAIK two options are available: Getting the correct MacVim version for your operating system in the project website, unzip the archive file and drag MacVim.app to your Applications ...

I tried the same and got Segmentation fault: 11 too. So I retried with luaotfload-tool -v -vvv -u that shows all processing and saw it stopped when trying to load Skia.ttf. So I edited /usr/local/texlive/2013/texmf-dist/tex/luatex/luaotfload/luaotfload-blacklist.cnf (with sudo) and added Skia.ttf (the first two lines) % Causes segmentation fault with ...

The MacTeX installer makes a soft link /usr/texbin pointing to the directory containing the binaries relative to the current release of TeX Live (although in a somewhat indirect way). On my system, if I try ls -l /usr/texbin, I get /usr/texbin@ -> /Library/TeX/Distributions/.DefaultTeX/Contents/Programs/texbin where /Library/TeX/ contains a clever set ...

A few month ago I released menukeys an now an upvote remind me of this question, so I’d like to announce the package here. It contains symbols for (I hope) all Apple and Windows Keys. The symbols are produced with TikZ. The code can be found in menukeys.sty or in the implementation section of the manual. Furthermore the package offers macros to typeset ...

This is simple with TeXShop installed. First launch TeXShop, and go into the preferences. In the second tab there is a tick box title called Automatic Preview Update. Make sure it's ticked. Now ok that, and quit TeXShop (you need to quit and reopen to make it honour the preference). Now all you need to do is open the pdf you're working on with TeXShop, and ...

xdvipdfmx (XeTeX’s output driver) has a bug with handling CFF-flavoured OpenType fonts (fonts usually with a .otf extension) with non-1000 UPM. It is a known bug with no known fix, unfortunately. The Font Awesome has a 1792 UPM, so it suffers from this bugs. One possible work around is to change the font to use 1000 UPM. FontForge can do this easily, from ...

Actually, X11 is not erased but moved to /opt/X11. So, the simplest solution would probably be to manually add the symbolic link from /usr/X11 to /opt/X11: sudo ln -s /opt/X11 /usr/X11

Based on this LaTeX website, there are following solutions for your problem. According the subsection "indirekte Eingabe von Umlauten" you can write \"A, \"O, \"U, \"a, \"o, \"u and \ss{} or {\"A}, {\"O}, {\"U}, {\"a}, {\"o}, {\"u} and {\ss} to get german letters. If you include the german or ngmerman (ngerman has the new hyphentation rules), you can write ...

I think TikZ-Editor is what you are searching for. It has a beautiful Mac-ish interface and the same features as tikzedt. And just to complete the list – I used Latexian before, it also provides live preview and an even better interface. You can use Latexian for editing full LaTeX-Files, too. Edit: As I just saw, there is no WYSIWYG-Editing in TikZ-Editor.....

I just solved it. You just need to change the path of the files for the command according to the new organization in El Captain. I posted a screenshot. It works for me! Hope this helps!

The delay in rendering pdfs with preview.app can be avoided with the following apps (they are all available through homebrew): Présentation.app: brew cask install presentation pdfpc: brew install pdfpc xpdf: brew install xpdf Additional Remarks by Daniel For those who prefer MacPorts: Currently MacPorts provides only the X11 versions, which do not work ...

Building an entire TeX distribution from source is a somewhat daunting task, but since TeX is open source, it is possible to do it. The place to start is: Building TeX Live However, open source software is also built on trust. If the binaries come from trusted sources there isn't really much sense in not using them. The MacTeX builds are created by Dick ...

Assuming you're on Mac OS X (otherwise there would be no TeXShop available to you), all you need is to click on a .tex file in a Finder window and choose "Get Info" from the "File" menu. In the window that pops up go at the tab named "Open with" and from the popup menu choose "TeXShop.app" Then click on the button just below, named "Change All…" Warning: ...

First of all I'd like to suggest you to take a look at this page: TikZ Resources. There is a list of tools that you can use to work with TikZ. It is must-have bookmark, full of resources, articles and examples. I would suggest you to use this tool: TikZiT.

This is a working but basic answer; it's somewhat involved. Also, I am not a programmer by any definition, nor an Os X expert. Surely there are better ways to achieve the same effect. At the end of the answer, there's a link where you can download a copy of the app described in the post. Background In Os X, any directory with an extension can be a "...

If you are using XeTeX or LuaTeX, you can use some of the symbols directly. However, be aware that only few fonts actually contain all symbols, so you might have to load it from a different font (like XITS, DejaVu Sans or FreeSerif): % Compile with xelatex or lualatex \documentclass{article} \usepackage{fontspec} \newfontfamily\xits{xits.otf} % provide a ...

Since this question is about Blue Sky Research and Textures, just a short message as an homage to another important collaborator of Blue Sky and dear friend: Doug Henderson, who left Blue Sky in the nineties to co-found a brewery called Hair of the Dog (http://www.hairofthedog.com/) and now, AFAIK, works at Extensis, the company that distributes Suitcase. ...

I have seen this problem as well if Inkscape images are embedded via pdflatex and then displayed on on a PDFKit-based viewer. (PDFKit is the built-in PDF rendering engine of OS X and used by Skim, Preview, and many other programs). Apparently, Inkscape has an "unusual" way of specifying transparencies, which do not survive the embedding done by pdflatex. ...

Just go to the /usr/local/texlive folder: do Command-Alt-G from the Finder and type /usr/local/texlive in the box You'll be presented with folders named texmf-local, 2013 and 2014: (I still have the 2012 version for testing). Drag the 2013 folder to the trashcan; the system will ask for an Administrator password. Empty the trash. End of MacTeX 2013. Don'...

Portable, and consistent solution Fandol fonts are reliable portable fonts for typesetting Simplified Chinese in TeX. Fandol fonts are not perfect: compared to the other commercial fonts, the character set of Fandol fonts is somewhat restricted, and the puncuations need to be tuned. Luckily, Fandol is a complete series of Chinese fonts in OpenType ...
