As per the TeXworks manual, the procedure to install spell checking dictionaries in TeXworks is as follows. Download the dictionary corresponding to your desired language from the OpenOffice.org extensions site. Change the file extension of the downloaded file from .oxt to .zip and extract the files with your archive utility of choice. Open TeXworks and ...

Background There is a bug (or possibly multiple related bugs) in Yosemite with respect to environment variables. When a program is launched in Finder by double-clicking, it will inherit a default set of environment variables from its parent process (I believe this is launchd currently, but that's not relevant). GUI programs do not inherit variables from ~/....

I have defined a new tool called pdflatex+shellescape: And this is the console output if I run it on a file: The log shows that the --shell-escape option has been activated. With MiKTeX you can call it --enable-write18, but since it understands also --shell-escape it's better to stick with the more general one.

If either of these two cases (or both) apply:--- [portability problems] examplestyle.sty = a file as described in the original question: namely, a personal .sty file generally available and used by several on-going projects (e.g., in TEXMFHOME or the less convenient place MikTeX likes to put it); [long-term stability problems] use of packages that are under ...

plain tex and latex are both written in tex but have no tex code in common, so while some commands have the same name and some of the ones that have the same name have the same definition, it is a bad idea to use latex as a tool to learn plain. The TeXBook describes two sets of commands (and doesn't always go to great lengths to distinguish them, apart from ...

Options to \documentclass are examined by all packages. So you're loading graphicx with the dvips option, which allows only EPS graphics to be imported and is nonsense when the engine is pdflatex. So remove it. \documentclass[sts]{imsart} In general dvips, pdftex or xetex should not be used even with packages that know them, such as graphicx hyperref ...

Try to change the repository using the button Change. Select another one and check you Internet connection. Also, you can get it from CTAN. Note that you can decide if you want to see that dialog window every time or not.

TeXworks has a 'Smart Quotes' mode that deliberately changes " to either `` or '' using some context-dependent 'cleverness'. This is available as " is very rarely needed in a typesetting context. However, the setting is easy enough to turn off. For a single file, you can go to Format -> Smart Quotes and choose None: this turns off the auto-conversion for ...

The script provided in the multibib documentation is Unix-based, so we will have troubles running it in Windows. In the script, there's also another command running inside single quotes - basename $file .aux - which returns the full path for $file (which is the current element in the for loop). The solution is to manually run these commands in the following ...

I managed to figure this out by combining answers from two sources. First, I found a post on the topic "Customize Editor Colors". The author of the post explains that you should create a custom style sheet mystyle.css using CSS mark-up, with the contents: QTextEdit { background-color: black; color: white; /* sets the main text color */...

Edit --> Preferences, look under the Editor tab. Here you can change font and font size. Restart TeXworks to see the effects.

Your question is very interesting, I promise to upvote it as soon as possible. As usual, I'm out of votes. I'll try to write a humble answer. I'm really sorry if the solution might cause any trouble due to any bug or annoyance, I'm a Lua newbie. :) First things first: we need to enable the scripting language plugin in TeXworks. We can do it by simply going ...

Let me suggest an other tool. Every document has its own requirements regarding the compilation. As you wrote you need pdflatex, makeindex and biber. My recommended tool allows the setting of the compilation out of the tex file. The tool is named arara Next to the short online introduction the author Paulo Cereda provides a complete manual which can be ...

that page is mistaken. all the symbol names listed there are from amsfonts. the original implementation of amsmath (then called amstex.sty after the non-latex original) loaded amsfonts, but amsmath does not. from the file amsmath.dtx: % A \latex/ package named \pkg{amstex} was created in 1988--1989 by % adapting \fn{amstex.tex} for use within \...

Close texworks. Compile your document in some other editor or on the command line so that miktex can do whatever maintenance tasks it wants to do. There is a bug report that texworks currently interferes with miktex: http://sourceforge.net/p/miktex/bugs/2394/. This bug shouldn't affect normal compilation later on.

A little bit late, and the solution has been mentioned before in this thread, but I had just the same problem. A quick solution to use pdfLaTeX with biber in TeXworks is to use a batch file. Create the file pdflatex+biber.bat in your MiKTeX directory, in the subfolder /miktex/bin/, with the following content: miktex-pdftex.exe -synctex=1 -undump=pdflatex "...

About TEXINPUTS and arara, I recommend Setting environment variable with arara as starting point. As pointed out, arara runs commands on subshells, in a self-contained environment, so it might be tricky to keep persistence between executions. As Marco said in the comments, you can exploit the operating system's file operation commands in order to move, ...

Update As of TeXShop version 3.21, TeXShop now accepts !BIB directives without the need of the script described in Mark Everitt's answer. You can simply put: % !BIB TS-program = biber or % !BIB program = biber (or bibtex as required). Original answer Mark Everitt's script is by far the most convenient way to switch between biber and bibtex in ...

I can't answer for TeXshop, but for TeXworks adding Biber is easy if we are talking about the version which comes with MacTeX. This is added to the path, and so there is no need to worry about locating the executable. I have the very simple set up Notice that the only argument needed here is $basename, which will be filled in to contain the name of the file ...

Hunspell dictionaries (.dic and .aff) are more complex than just word lists (i.e. it contains information of possible affixes). Therefore, a proper entry cannot be generated from a single word. The solution in TexStudio is to store additional words in an ignore word list (.ign) next to the dictionary. This list can be populated via Context Menu -> ...

As the TeXworks manual says, TeXworks includes built-in support for Qt, and the application of Qt style sheets may be used to change the look of the TeXworks. By digging around a bit, I came up with this answer. First, set up your copy of TeXworks by pasting in the shortcut target "C:\Program Files\MiKTeX 2.9\miktex\bin\x64\miktex-texworks.exe" -stylesheet ...

You have to put the images into a directory that is searched by LaTeX during the compilation. Usually, the easiest is to put it in the same directory as where the .tex file is. You can as well use the \graphicspath command in your preamble to specify the directories searched for graphics. Remember to put each directory in a second pair of braces, like: \...

I would suggest that you create your own batch file doing exactly what you want. I'm not on windows now, but I believe it should look like this: latex -synctex=1 "%1.%2" && dvips -P pdf -t a4 "%1.dvi" && ps2pdf "%1.ps" (The && ensure that the next stages are not executed in the case of an error.) Save it ...

Since using a different viewer is an option, I'll add how I do it. For linux, Acrobat works this way, in Windows it does not ...

(CW from comments) TeXworks is a multiplatform front-end to TeX/LaTeX; its current version is not able to print PDF files on any of the supported platforms. Whether the situation will change in the future is not known, but the issue doesn't seem to be high priority in the developer's intentions. Since TeXworks is largely inspired by TeXShop, on Mac OS X ...

Both Texmaker and TeXworks are able to do this. Texmaker: With the main file open, select Options --> Define Current Document as master document (How to best use and compile multiple .tex files as part of same final document?)
